While snorkeling in the tropics you’ll marvel at the clear blue shimmering waters, colorful marine life and silvery schools of fish, maybe even a dolphin or two—all under a sparkling sun. No wonder the tropics are favored for snorkeling.

The beaches are shallow, less than a hundred fathoms (1 fathom = 6 feet or 1.8 meters) making them continental shelves. Sunrays easily find their way to the seabed where they feed on the plentiful plankton.

The Hawaiian islands, the Caribbean islands, the beaches of Florida, Brazil and Argentina—all famous snorkeling destinations—are considered the tropics, with waters warm enough to make snorkeling irresistible. And the view can’t be beat—above or below the water—just can’t be beat. More on Tropical Snorkeling.

For people in a hurry and trying to squeeze in a little healthy yoga into the day or night, try one of these two yoga sessions on for size. You can be at home, at your place of work or anywhere, any time. Experiment and see where these fit into your day best.

While you are reading or writing your e-mails, focus on breathing slowly and you’re your focus and attention on your breath, not just your messages. When you exhale, take twice as long at this than when you inhale, to help calm you and help keep you clamer throughout the rest of your day.

Upper Stretch Time

Reach head your head, and interlace your fingers, holding your head in them. While you are doing this, relax your shoulders and elbows. Think happy thoughts, smile, breathe slow and deep, and stretch your elbows back. Release the tension slowly.

Posing Prompts

Lift your arms to your sides, fingers pointing outwards. Take one large step off to the side, keeping your right foot out with your knee bent while your left foot remains firmly on the ground, left leg straightened out. With your upper body straight and firm, relax your shoulders and relax into the stretch, while not holding your breath. Return upright to a standing position, and then switch sides and repeat.

Lower Stretch Time

With your hands on the edge of something firmly in place like a desk or table, stand back with your feet apart. Drop your head and chest and then breathe, relaxing your shoulders.

Swaying Palm Tree Pose AKA Tiryaka Tadasana

To streamline your waist and help with balance, stand with your feet 8 inches apart. Focus your eyes on a point directly in front of you. Interlocking your fingers, turn your palms outward, and deeply inhale while you lift your arms up and over your head. While you exhale, bend from your waist to your left side (don’t reach backwards or forwards). Hold your position for a few seconds, then deeply inhale and slowly return to the upright position. Repeat this five times with each side.

There are many more yoga sessions you can practice anytime, anywhere. Many are short sessions like these and some are much longer. Do a little research or look for yoga classes in your area and see which sessions work best for you. Then get fit inside and out and sty that way!

Michigan, in the heart of the Great Lakes is one of the most scenic states in North America. Many visitors come for the thrill of being in a wilderness amongst the lakes, rivers and forests and having the opportunity of being close to wildlife. The best way to see everything off the beaten track is to go camping in Michigan. The campgrounds vary a lot in the range of amenities they offer. Some are very basic whilst others have all the conveniences and can accommodate RVs. Whether camping in a tent with no running water or a rustic cabin; it’s a great way of spending a vacation.

One of the most popular areas for people who like to get away from it all is the Isle Royale National Park on North West Lake Superior. The emphasis in this park is to limit the impact of human visitors and protect the flora and fauna of the area. Camping in Michigan here is on a leave no trace basis. Visitors are not allowed in winter and hunting is prohibited. The wildlife on view includes moose, wolves, beavers, otters, turtles, eagles and osprey. The park can be accessed by ferry, floatplane or boat and moving around the park can be done on foot or on the water in a canoe, kayak or motorboat. Mountain bikes are not permitted.

There is plenty to do here for the active and it’s a favorite destination for fishing enthusiasts and hikers. Divers like to come here too and there are some wreaks to explore on the lake bottom. The nighttime spectacle of the Northern Lights is a common sight. There are various camp sites to choose from, including Rock Harbor, which has the most amenities and has showers and toilets. Chippewa Harbor is a good choice for fishermen and Chickenbone East is one of the most basic and campers have to hike to the nearest water supply.

The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on Lake Michigan is another leave no trace area for camping in Michigan. Campers are very welcome however and it is open in winter, when it’s possible to go snowshoe hiking and cross country skiing. Horseback riding is allowed in some areas and the site is accessed by car, bus or plane. The area is made up of the mainland and two islands with huge sand dunes and inland lakes. It’s ideal terrain for waterfowl such as Canada Geese and loons. Camping in Michigan doesn’t get any better than at the Valley View or White Pine sites on the mainland. There are also several campgrounds on the islands.

There is something special about your first baseball glove. If you met me, you would not expect me to be a very big fan of baseball. You see, I am not very athletic, and I have never been very athletic. I am more of an egghead actually. I love math, chess, and video games. As a matter of fact, on your average day I am more likely to play a baseball video game than play catch. Nonetheless, there is one thing about my baseball glove that makes it so valuable to me that words can’t capture it: the connection it gave me to my father.

You see, playing catch is something that fathers and sons have been doing in this country for generation, and it is something that they will continue to do for many more years. A baseball glove is a way for a young kid to bond with his father. My dad was a pretty typical American dad. He was kind of quiet and stern, and had a really hard time expressing his feelings. When we went outside together and played catch with our baseball gloves, however, I knew how much I meant to him. Baseball mitts – and baseball in general is good for that. It can bring people together who would not be able to talk as freely otherwise.

My dad knew that I did not want to be on any baseball team and, to his credit, he never pressured me to join. All I wanted to do was to play catch with him and run around, as well as occasionally shoot hoops with my friends. My own kid is a lot different than I was at that age. He loves anything and everything that has to do with sports, and I don’t know where he got it from. Never the less, when I got him his very first baseball glove, he looked at me with the same look of joy that I gave my father when he got me one. At that point, I knew that he was really and truly my son, and I was his dad.

We would play catch every day that summer, him with his new, shiny baseball glove, and me with my old, worn down one. It was usually a quiet time, but it was always a lot of fun. I think that it might have been the best summer since when I was a kid.
