Top-freezer refrigerators tend to offer smaller freezer compartments than side-by-side models. They have the freezer at eye level, thus placing the refrigerator at a lower and less convenient place. These Fridge Freezer models are less expensive than side-by-side refrigerators. Another benefit of the top-freezer models is that they can hold very large horizontal items like pizza boxes and birthday cakes while the fridge compartment in a side-by-side unit might be too narrow.

Freezer-on-top Refrigerators are available in various sizes to store all quantities of food and beverages. The basic Compact Refrigerator Freezers are a good fit for apartments or small tight spaces. These models are inexpensive and reliable, with just enough capacity to fit in your knick knacks. It doesn’t have an Ice maker, water dispenser or other extras, but it’s a good choice if you simply want the basics.

Before you buy your new refrigerator, there are few questions you need to consider. How large is the space or opening in my kitchen where I can fit a refrigerator? What refrigerator configuration would I prefer? How large a refrigerator capacity do I need? What features are must-haves, and which features are less important? What kind of budget do I have for a new refrigerator? Once you figure these out, you would be able to make the perfect choice for a fridge.

I hope everyone has the wood chopped and stacked for a long winter. Here in the Midwest, ours has definitely already begun. We’re talking 10 degrees and in full effect. Even the ground is dusted with snow already. Fortunately I’ve got my trusty wood-burning fireplace to save the day, and a few frigid toes. What’s in your home? If you also have the benefit of a cozy, crackling traditional fireplace, then let me offer you a few tips. Oh, but first of all; have you seen those cool new decorative fireplace screens? These are the BOMB! Every household with a fireplace should indeed have one.

Okay, so you enjoy your wood-burning fireplace. Maybe it’s one that was installed in the family room for moderate heating and aesthetic purposes. These are great. There’s nothing wrong with that. Or, maybe you have one of the more contemporary efficient fireplaces that heat nearly the entire home. These are outstanding and will save you bundles in gas heating bills. Anyway, what about the decorative fireplace screens? These are an awesome addition to any wood-burning fireplace. I purchased one a few winters back for a home store and love it. You see, there can be a concern with wood-burning fireplaces. As you probably already know, when wood is burned, it crackles, breaks, pops, and even slightly explodes at times. No big deal! It’s entertaining and fun to listen to. However, you may want to invest in a few fine decorative fireplace screens in order to protect your floor and home. Let me provide an example. My fireplace is located in the living area. We make use of it regularly and coals can spring from the fire onto the floor. Most will land on the hearth, but some lunge a bit further. Twice in the past, I had red-hot coals land on the carpet. Although there was no fire, it did scar the carpet with a burn mark. That stinks! And that’s where the decorative fireplace screens come into the picture. Use these to shield your home from the fire’s wrath. Simple place them in front of your burning fire.

What else is beneficial besides the decorative fireplace screens? Hey, try scooping the ashes from your fireplace between EVERY fire you build. Not once a week or every month. This will make the process go so much smoother. Also, try burning a piece of paper up near the flue prior to lighting the fire. It will get the smoke started in the right direction.

There are many options for pets, but some like to start out small. Others like to have small ones simply because their landlords will not allow them to have a cat or a dog. Hamsters are very popular when it comes to small pets, though they certainly won’t live as long as a cat or a dog, they can have a decent lifespan. When you get one, you do have to find the best hamster cages that you can afford to keep them happy and healthy for as long as possible.

The hamster cages that most of us had when growing up were rather simple. They had a metal cage, and the tops and bottoms were either closed or open. These hamster cages had a running wheel, and then food and water apparatus. That was usually about it. They worked well enough, and some had a ball they could put their hamster in to let it run around the house without getting hurt or lost. It was also great exercise, but not being a hamster myself, I couldn’t really tell you if they really enjoy it or not.

The hamster cages of today are a bit more fun, probably for the hamster and the owner alike. You can still find the old kind, but the newer ones don’t have any bars at all. They are made of a plastic that has holes in it for proper air ventilation, and are often in really neat and bright colors. The plastic is see-through, so the hamster is not hidden most of the time. Not only that, the hamster cages can be as big as you want, as they have additions that can go on and on. If you have more than one, this is a fun thing to do.

Most of these hamster cages can be put together with tunnels, or the tunnels can go in and out of the same cage. That makes them a lot of fun, and gives the animal more room to roam and more exercise to boot. What you want to spend on your hamster cages will be up to you of course, and you can buy each piece on its own, and then add more later if you really want to. Just remember to keep them clean, and that when you have more, you have more to keep up with. However, most hamster owners don’t mind the work, and they think their little critters are well worth it.
